Sarah Mullens is a writer from West Virginia. Winner of the 2026 Ploughshares Emerging Writers’ Contest in Creative Nonfiction, she received an MFA from Colorado State University in 2026 and holds a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy from Hampshire College. A recipient of support from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and Virginia Center for Creative Arts, her essays have appeared or are forthcoming in Oxford AmericanPloughsharesThe Missouri ReviewCondé Nast Traveler, and elsewhere. She currently lives between Colorado’s Front Range and Dallas, Texas, where she’s a Hughes Fellow and Visiting Writer in Residence at Southern Methodist University.
